City Seeks Advisory Board Volunteers

The City is currently seeking applicants for our advisory volunteer boards, committees and commissions.  Appointed by the City Council through an application process, volunteers review policies and proposals in order to make recommendations to the Council.

These boards and commissions provide an essential connection between our residents and local government. The City Council encourages residents to consider being part of a City advisory board. Additional information on each of the groups and online applications are available below.

Planning Commission


The Planning Commission prepares and keeps a current Comprehensive Plan; establishes principles and policies for guiding action affecting development; prepares and recommends to the City Council ordinances and regulations to promote orderly and economically sound development; and determines whether specific proposed developments conform to the principles and requirements of the Comprehensive Plan and the City Code.

Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public, broadcast live on Government Channel 180 and can be replayed on the Planning Commission web page.


Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Committee


The Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Committee advises the City Council on development of a Comprehensive Park, Trail and Open Space Plan; the development and use of parks and recreation facilities, leisure services, and recreation programming for public enjoyment; and preservation of natural resources and promotion of environmental awareness.

Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are not televised.


Economic Development Commission


The purpose of the Economic Development Commission is to strengthen the economic base of the City in a manner consistent with the goals and policies of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Economic Development Plan.

The Economic Development Commission meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Marion Conference Room at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are not televised.


Finance Committee


The purpose of the Finance Committee is to function as a resource to the City Council and staff in an advisory capacity regarding fiscal matters relating to short and long term financial planning; financial policies and practices; local, state and national trends in finance and the economy; analysis of legislative issues; review of quarterly financial reports and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report; and to provide recommendations regarding public communications and education programs related to budget and City finances.  

The Finance Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of February, April, June, August, October and December at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are not televised.


Lakeville Area Arts Center Advisory Board


The purpose of the Lakeville Area Arts Center Advisory Board is to advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the promotion, development, and accessibility of the arts; to create an environment for artistic excellence; and to provide for a community gathering place that fosters creative expression and artistic and educational opportunities for people of all ages.
  
The Lakeville Area Arts Center Advisory Board meets quarterly in the months of January, April, July, and October at 3:30 p.m. at the Lakeville Area Arts Center. Meetings are open to the public and are not televised.
